EMMETSBURG—Kathryn A. Bailey, 89, Emmetsburg, died Sunday at the Palo Alto County Hospital, Emmetsburg.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Emmetsburg, with Dr. David Ray officiating. Burial is in the Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today at the Martin Funeral Home, Emmetsburg.
Survivors include sons, Dr. Thomas Bailey, Salem, Ore., and Dr. J. Martin Bailey, Upper Montclair, N.J.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brother, James Ausland, Emmetsburg.
Kathryn G. Ausland was born Aug. 4, 1902, at Royal. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1920. She graduated from Grinnell College in 1924. In 1925 she started teaching English in Emmetsburg. She married Allen R. Bailey in 1926 at Emmetsburg. He died in 1952. She retired from teaching in 1967.
She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the American Association of University Women, and of the Friday Club and was very active in her church. She is a former member of the board of directors of the Emmetsburg Library.
Funeral Services Held
For Kathryn Bailey
Mrs. Kathryn Bailey of Emmetsburg died Sunday Oct. 6, 1991, at Palo Alto County Hospital. She was 89.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bailey were held Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, in Emmetsburg. Officiating were Dr. David Ray, Dr. J. Martin Bailey, Dr. Betty Jane Bailey and Dr. Thomas Bailey.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Honorary bearers were S.J. Brownlee, Joseph P. Hand, Kay Spies, Mary Kass and Dr. Warren Marks. Casket bearers were Robert Nolan, Jack Daniels, Larry Stoerker, Richard Jones, Don Johnson and John F. Spies.
Kathryn (Ausland) Bailey was born Aug. 4, 1902 in Royal, the daughter of Martin and Una (Ochsner) Ausland. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1920 and from Grinnell College in 1924. She began her teaching career in Emmetsburg in 1925. On Aug. 6, 1926, Kathryn and Allen R. Bailey were married in Emmetsburg. Mrs. Bailey continued her teaching career, teaching in the English department for many years. She retired in 1967.
Mrs. Bailey was an active member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational. She served on the Emmetsburg Public Library board for many years and was a member of PEO, AAUW and Friday Club.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Thomas Bailey of Salem, Ore., and Dr. J. Martin Bailey of Upper Montclair, N.J.; six grand children and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, James Ausland of Emmetsburg.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, in 1952; her parents, and a brother, William M. Ausland.
