Bird hunting, golfing (club champion several times), mayor of Curlew for 24 years, president of PTA, and chair of board of trustees of Curlew United Methodist Church. Also chaired several committees at the Emmetsburg United Church of Christ. Enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing bridge.
