Migration:
From Cedar Falls, David went first to Iowa City for graduate study in chemistry; after his marriage the Baileys moved to Philadelphia? Newark, Delaware?, where David worked with Rohm & Haas, chemical manufacturers. Later David became an assistant professor of chemistry at I.S.T.C. in Cedar Falls. He then headed the physical chemistry section of Smith, Kline and French research laboratories in Philadelphia. After serving the U.S. Army Research and Development Command in the Greater Boston area, the Baileys retired to city and state.

In addition to serving as a director of the American Institute of Chemists and as past president of the Massachusetts Institute of Chemists, David Bailey was interested in family history and genealogy.
