

The list below includes the names of members of the Shontz family with whom we have had significant contact, but it is not an inclusive list. There are, in fact, many that I have not personally known or heard about. If there are some who belong on this list, please let me know.

Shantz, Jacob P., (about 1728 – about 1782), son of Christian Tschantz; married Jane Maria (Mary) Rund; father of five children including Jacob Shontz Jr., farmed 225 acres in Lancaster County, Pennslyvania; was a Mennonite.
Shantz, Jane Maria (Mary) Rund, (November 6, 1732 – July 6, 1832); married Jacob P. Shantz, was mother of six children including Jacob Shontz Jr.,) a homemaker.
Shontz, Clara Leda, see Clara Leda Shontz Ochsner.
Shontz, George W., (18?? – 19??) son of John Alexander Shontz, married Clara Marie Wilson; after growing up in Bear Valley, Wisconsin, he moved to Chicago where he became a prominent attorney, serving for a time as attorney for the Panama Canal Commission.
Shontz, Jacob Jr., (after 1768 – August 8, 1846), son of Jacob P. Shantz; married Rebecca Reed; father of eight children including John Shontz; was a farmer and shoemaker; moved from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, “over the mountains” to Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania; was a farmer and founder of the Seceder Presbyterian Church.
Shontz, John Alexander, (January 25, 1828 – November 20, 1913), son of John Shontz of Crawford, County, Pennsylvania, married Rebecca Keziah McFadden, father of six children including Lola Kathryn Shontz Ochsner, Clara Leda Shontz Ochsner, Florence Shontz Brainerd, and George W. Shontz; was a farmer, lumber merchant, and postmaster in Bear Valley, Wisconsin. Lived in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Shontz, John, (September 7, 1797 – February 24, 1860), son of Jacob Shontz Jr.; married Mathia Morocol Schoonmaker; father of nine children including John Alexander Shontz; farmer in Pennsylvania all his life.
Shontz, Lola Kathryn (“Kate”), see Lola Kathryn Shontz Ochsner.
Shontz, Mathia Morocol Schoonmaker, (April 3, 1799 – July 7, 1882 0r 1883), married John Shontz; mother of nine children including John Alexander Shontz; lived in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, all her life; was a homemaker.
Shontz, Rebecca Keziah McFadden, (November 2, 1832 – March 24, 1904), daughter of John W. McFadden and Lodiska Susan Rockwell McFadden; married John Alexander Shontz; mother of six children, including Lola Kathryn Shontz Ochsner; moved with her husband from Crawford County, Pennsylvania, to Bear Valley, Wisconsin.
Shontz, Rebecca Reed, (August 6 1774 – April 9, 1847), married Jacob Shontz Jr., mother of eight children including John Shontz; moved from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, with her husband; was a homemaker.
Shontz, Theodore Perry, ( ), son of xxx; was a principal engineer of the Panama Canal and later became president of the New York IRT Subway line.
Tschantz, Christian, (before 1700 – about 1741); was an immigrant ancestor, probably having been born in Germany; nothing is known of his wife or wives; father of at least three children, including Jacob P. Shantz, farmed 106 acres in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; was probably a part of “Martin Kendig’s company” of Mennonites who came to America by way of London.
